Adrien Audoux & Frida Minet – Set of 4 Tripod Rope Chairs (1950s)
This set embodies the characteristic French mid-century Mediterranean design of Adrien Audoux & Frida Minet. Handcrafted in southern France in the 1950s, the base is made of oak and the seat and backrest surfaces are woven from abaca straw. The minimalist tripod frame creates a fascinating contrast to the rustic, artful rope work. Since all chairs are handmade, each piece is unique with visible variations in the craftsmanship details.
Vintage condition – More of a decorative object than seating
The chairs are offered in their original condition, which limits their suitability as everyday seating. They are primarily collector’s and decorative items, not sturdy seating. The woven abaca seat and backrest are only loosely secured with nails on several chairs (original!), which makes using them a real adventure. There are some missing pieces of wood and signs of wear on the rope. On one chair, the backrest was subsequently secured with non-original screws.
